GREEN FLOORING:

GREEN has become very important in floor covering manufacture. It takes form in several ways.

QUALIY: We love natural products. Wool, Cork, Bamboo, Responsibly Farmed Wood Flooring are all major players in the GREEN movement. Still, Quality is the most important factor in making a product GREEN. The longer a product remains looking good on your floor, the longer it stays out of the landfill. That is why we believe the most important aspect of GREEN is QUALITY.

RENEWABLE: This basically refers to Natural products; Wool, Jute, Cork, Wood, Bamboo. All these are replenished in nature, some faster than others. Wool grows annually on sheep, Bamboo can mature in 6 years, Wood grows at various rates but is replanted as it is harvested.

RECYCLABLE: Carpet is now being advertised as recyclable. In reality, the process has a long way to go. Despite a concentrated effort by carpet manufacturers, most carpet ends up in landfills. Some carpet is made from polyester obtained from recycled plastic bottles. The yarn made from this process is inferior to quality type 6,6 nylon. Polyester products therefore end up in landfills much sooner, defeating its GREEN purpose. However, foam padding has a much better chance of being recycled. We dispose of all our foam padding pull-up into a recycle bin that is emptied regularly by recyclers.

RESPONSIBLE: Manufacturers of flooring have become very aware of their responsibility to produce products in an energy efficient manner. Recycling of energy, water and chemicals has become a major emphasis of production. Wood suppliers are becoming more aware of the impact their harvesting methods have on the environment. The Forest Stewardship Council certifies that wood products have been harvested responsibly.

LOW VOC: Volatile Organic Compounds have been greatly reduced in carpet and pad. Floor covering is one of the lowest VOC emitting products found in the home. The Carpet and Rug Institute monitors VOCs in the industry and certifies compliance with their GREEN LABEL designation. Wood flooring has been recently mandated by the state to comply with low VOC regulations.
